Abstract | Download PDF | | Post | Objective: To compare the mode of delivery in patients at term in relation to the time of commencement of induction of labor (IOL).
Methodology: This multicenter randomized controlled trial was conducted from January 2020 to January 2021 and included 180 primiparous pregnant women. Study participants were split into two groups; Group A included morning inductions and Group B included evening inductions having 90 participants in each group. Sampling was done using nonprobability sampling technique. Primiparous women with period of gestation between 37 and 41 weeks, single fetus, cephalic presentation, Bishop score ≤6 and induction done with vaginal prostaglandins E2 were enrolled in the study. Mode of delivery was judged in terms of cesarean delivery and spontaneous vertex delivery.
Results: Mean age of participants was 25.7+4.3 years in group A and 25.9+4.2 years in group B. The mode of delivery was cesarean section in 28 (31.1%) cases in group A and 22 (24.4%) cases in group B. In group A, 62 (68.9%) cases had spontaneous vertex delivery while in group B, 68 (75.6%) had spontaneous vertex delivery. The dissimilarity in mode of delivery between groups did not have statistical significance (p=0.31).
Conclusion: Both morning and evening elective IOL are equivalent in terms of cesarean section and spontaneous vertex delivery.
Key words: Elective induction, morning, evening, obstetric outcome.
