Nursing Care in Neuroleptic Malign Syndrome

Abstract

Neuroleptic Malign Syndrome (NMS) is an idiosyncratic reaction to neuroleptic medication. The major symptom of NMS are hyperthermia, muscular rigidity, extrapyramidal symptoms and autonomic dysfunction. Although NMS is not frequent, it is a life-threatening sitvation in which early detection and treatment are important. Nurses have many responsibilities in early detection, and caring of patients who suffer from NMS and .preventing complications and helping.patients and families get back to their previous level of functioning.
