FLORISTIC DIVERSITY OF AQUATIC PLANTS FOUND IN KAINJI DAM, BORGU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS OF NIGER STATE, NIGERIA, WEST AFRICA

Abstract

Present study is the outcome of a continued floristic studies carried out in localities of Kainji Dam, Borgu Local Government Area, Niger state between November 2016 to July 2017, sample of aquatic plants were collected . The families of the floristic diversity of plants identified in this study were, Araceae, Azollaceae, Commelinaceae, Ceratophyllaceae, Lamiaceae, Moraceae, Musaceae, Orobanchaceae, Potamogetonaceae, Rubiaceae, Rutaceae, Salviniaceae, Sapotaceae and Typhaceae each of them have 1 species, Convolvulaceae, Marantaceae and Polygonaceae each, of them have 2 species, Malvaceae, Nymphaeaceae and Pontederiaceae each of them has 3 species, Asteraceae 4 species, Cyperaceae and Fabaceae each has 5 species, Onagraceae 6 species, Poaceae 11 species , 5dominant families are Malvaceae, Nymphaeaceae Pontederiaceae (3) species, Asteraceae, (4) species, Cyperaceae, (5) species, Onagraceae, Fabaceae (6) species and Poaceae (11)species and five (5) dominant Generaare Cyperus, Polygonum each of them have (2) genera, Echinochloa, Nymphaea each of them have(3) genera and Ludwiga have (4) genera.
