Objective: To compare the cardioprotective effects of Nigella sativa and Enalapril in Doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in rats.
Methodology: This experimental randomized control trial was conducted in Department of Pharmacology, International Islamic Medical College in alliance with the Riphah Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the National Institute of Health, Islamabad, Pakistan from September 20210 to August 2021. Forty adult male rats were divided into four groups each having ten rats. The normal control (group-1) received no medication throughout the experiment, while on day eight, cardiotoxicity was induced in Groups 2, 3, and 4 by a cumulative intraperitoneal dose of Doxorubicin 15mg/kg. After the confirmation of cardiotoxicity, group 3 rats received Nigella sativa 100mg/kg/day, and group 4 received enalapril 2mg/kg orally for 14 days. On day zero, baseline blood samples were taken and normal values of Trop T, Trop I, and CKMB were recorded for comparisons.
