Parent-adolescent communication and culture of "Maja Labo Dahu” (Shame and Fear) with risk sexual behavior in adolescents, Bima, Indonesia

Abstract

Background: Dating and sexual behavior are closely related to each other. Dating will expose teens to conditions that enhance sexual experience. It was reported that kissing (48% of boys, 30% of girls), petting (30% of boys, 6% of girls).
Objective: To determine the effect of parent-adolescent communication, Maja Labo Dahu (shame and fear) culture with risky sexual behavior in adolescents.
Methodology: This study was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design of 2 groups. The sample size is 60 subjects. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. Data analysis used univariate and multivariate with logistic regression.
Result: The results showed the sexual behavior of low-risk adolescents (91.2%) good parent-adolescent communication (57.2%). There is an effect of parental communication based on Maja Labo Dahu (shame and fear) with risky sexual behavior (p=0.03); there is an influence of parental contact with risky sexual behavior (p=0.04).
Conclusion: The study influenced parent-adolescent communication, with risky behavior in both the control and treatment groups. Suggestions from the Office related to health and education need to include Bima local cultural materials, especially in the delivery of Adolescent Reproductive Health.
