Abstract

Background: Women have a higher risk of developing stroke, more chance to have a recurrent stroke, and severe stroke. The association between stroke and menopause is more likely due to sex hormones. The current study aimed to assess the prevalence of stroke among menopausal females in Taif city, Saudi Arabia.
Methods: A cross-sectional online survey study was conducted involving 303 menopausal females. A predesigned questionnaire was used to collect data about the participants’ demographic characteristics, their medicalhistory, practicing physical activity, and onset and details on the complication of stroke. Data were analyzed in percentages, and chi-squared test (χ2) was applied to test the relationship between variables. Qualitative data were expressed as mean and standard deviation, and the Mann-Whitney test was applied for non-parametric variables. A p-value was considered to be significant if 6 hours.
Conclusion: This study found a prevalence of stroke of 4% among the studied Saudi females. The study calls for the implementation of effective health education programs about methods of prevention and risk factors of stroke.
