Correlation between serum testosterone levels and micro-vascular complication in diabetic patients

Abstract

It has been well recognized that diabetes and Insulin Resistance are 2 important components of diabetes
Mellitus.The prevalence of T2DM has been increasing dramatically and this is mirrored by an increased
prevalence of overweight and obesity. Testosterone (Te), the principal hormone of the testes, is a C19
steroid with an –OH group in the 17 position (Figure 2). It is synthesized from cholesterol in the Leydig
cells and is also formed from androstenedione secreted by the adrenal cortex. Patients of age group 35-70
years were selected as cases from those attending OPD and those admitted in the wards. Blood donating
volunteers in Blood served as control group. Diabetic neuropathy was seen in 22(59.46%) low Te cases
compared to 3(6.5%) in normal Te cases. This was statistically significant (P
