Prevalence of gait abnormalities in children with cerebral palsy

Abstract

Objective: To find the gait abnormalities in children of cerebral palsy (CP) in different centers of Lahore, Pakistan.
Methodology: In this cross sectional study, convenient sampling technique was used and data were collected from Children hospital, Rising Sun Institute, Lahore and different CP centers. Study was completed in 6 months period. CP children of both gender and age from 5 to 18 years were included in the study. Children other than CP, older than 18 years and those having other neurological impairment were excluded. Gait abnormalities were noted. The data were analyzed with SPSS 21.
Results: Among 96 children, 52(54.2%) were male and 44(45.8%) female. Mean age was 9.99±1.699 (range 6-13) years. Athetoid, spastic and ataxic were the commonest gait abnormalities seen.
Conclusion: There were different gait abnormalities in children with cerebral palsy depending on the type of cerebral palsy and condition of child.
