Frequency of fecal incontinence in patients with low fistula in-ano subjected to fistulectomy

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the incidence of fecal incontinence in individuals with a low fistula in-ano and undergone fistulectomy.
Methodology: This descriptive case series study was conducted at the General Surgery
Department, Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, from October 2018 and April 2019 and included 140 participants. A complete history and physical examination followed by pre-operative routine examinations were recorded. A fistulectomy was performed on each patient under general anesthesia and a CPSP fellow general surgeon.
Results: Participants age range was 30-40 years (80%), and mean age was 38±2.03 years. The majority of the participants were male (70%). Fecal incontinence was observed to be 9%.
Conclusion: Frequency of fecal incontinence was 9% in individuals with a low fistula in ano who have had fistulectomy.
