Abstract

Dr. Paul Lippert reviews Robert Darnton’s Poetry and the Police, Ben Kafka’s The Demon of Writing, and Laura Mason’s Singing the French Revolution. Lippert’s review focuses on the novel uses of media before and during the French Revolution by examining the implications of these practices with regard to single- versus multiple-system thinking and the emergence of modernity.
