Role of Nano -technology in Medicine

Sampath Kumar KL.

Abstract

Nanotechnology is the new era of research focusing in the use of the matter at the atomic and molecular levels. It is beyond doubt that the modern medicine can benefit greatly from it. Thus nano medicine has become one of the main branches of the nano technological research. Currently it focuses on developing new methods of diagnosis, drug delivery systems, treatment and sterilization. At present, nano materials have shown very high efficiency in destroying cancer cells resulting in a new branch of medicine, cancer nano medicine. Other potential application of nano technology in medicine include, nano adjuvants with immune modulatory properties used to deliver vaccine antigens, the nano knife and carbon nano tubes for repairing damaged tissues especially for the regeneration of the damaged nerves.

Key words: Nano technology, medicine, diagnosis, drug delivery, chemotherapy, regeneration. Introduction
