Prognostic relationship between immature granulocyte ratio and ulcerative colitis activation

To aimed to determine the non-invasive predictive value for ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between colonic involvement, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, and immature granulocyte (IG) proportions in patients with active UC. The study sought to establish the potential utility of immature granulocytes (IG) as a marker of disease activity. A retrospective study was conducted on UC patients followed between June 2022 and January 2023. Patients with active UC were included, and their demographic data, medical histories, biochemical findings, and outcomes were recorded. Exclusion criteria included patients under 18, those not followed up due to UC flares, those without confirmed UC, and those with incomplete data. The Mayo endoscopic score was used to assess disease severity. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 27. A total of 121 patients were included, with 16 in remission. Patients were classified into Group 1 (Mayo score 1-2) and Group 2 (Mayo score 3). Significant differences were found in colonic involvement patterns between the groups. Group 1 had a higher percentage of IGs than Group 2. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis assessed the diagnostic accuracy of IG% and IG count. Both showed significant diagnostic value, with AUCs of 0.652 and 0.647, respectively. The study found that IG levels were not significantly associated with disease activity as measured by the Mayo score in UC patients. Ferritin levels were elevated in patients with severe disease. Further research is needed to explore the role of IGs and other biomarkers in UC management.
