Correlation between sleep quality and internet addiction among undergraduate medical students

Objective: To determine the correlation between quality of sleep and internet addiction amongst undergraduate medical students.
Methodology: This cross-sectional observational study was carried out at the College of Medicine, Majmaah University, KSA. A total of 324 medical students of both genders in different age groups were included in this study. To assess sleep quality, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire was used, and to assess internet addiction, the Internet Addiction Young Internet Addiction Test (YInAT) questionnaire was used. Data were analysed using SPSS 25.
Results: Out of 324 medical students, internet addiction prevalence was 90%. The samples were distributed as follows across various levels: 24.6% of individuals had severe internet addiction, followed by 34% with moderate addiction, 41% with low addiction, and 10% with no indications of addiction.
