Effects of lipids on inflammation and DNA damage in diabetes mellitus patients

Abstract

We aimed to see the effect of lipids on 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), a marker of DNA damage, and Interleukin-6 (IL-6), an inflammatory cytokine, in Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients. Serum IL-6, and 8-OHdG levels were determined using kits based on the ELISA principle. The groups were different in terms of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglyceride.
