An Investigation of the Psychometric Properties of the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale in an Adolescent Sample

Abstract

The aim of the present study evaluate psychometric properties of the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAAS-A) in Turkish sample. The psychometric properties of SAAS-A were examined ona sample of 453 (235 girls, 218 boys) adolescents between 12-15 years of age. In order to determine the construct validity of SAAS-A, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. The factor analysis resulted in factors. Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A) was used for the criterion validity. It was found positive and high correlations between SAAS-A and SAS-A. The Cronbach’s alpha for the SAAS-A was .91 and the computed test re-test reliability coefficient was .80. These findings demonstrate that the validity and the reliability of SAAS-A were satisfactory for the Turkish elementary school sample.
