Why do teacher’ candidates cheat?

Abstract

In this research, the reason why the teacher candidates studying in different departments have been investigated in different variable dimensions. 194 teacher candidates studying at the last (senior) classes in different departments have joined this study which has been taken place in 2006-2007 Educational year at the Teachers’ Training college of Ahi Evran University. With the purpose of collecting the data-research used Hatching Method; a questionnaire-form developed by the researchers has been used for. To analyze the data-research, the SPSS programme has also been utilized. Data-research have been analyzed using the statistical techniques necessary. At the end of the research; during the university education duration: not preferring the exams based on comments so much; but testing the knowledge with a few ways in short times – leads students to memorizing. Moreover, every students who have chance to cheat appeal to cheat.

Thus, it has been perceived by the students that only the exam mark is important to pass the lesson and it has also been determined that the necessity of getting high marks is come out. So, the students who feel fear of lesson-failure has been determined to cheat various spiritual reasons (not remembering due to excitement, not studying enough for exams, not being disgraceful to people around him/her and his/her family due to failing in the class, not feeling self-confidence, disliking lesson and its teacher etc…)
